My mouse I got from Dell is driving me nuts!!!! Sometimes I will be playing UT running around and aiming fine and then all of a sudden it points straight up or down and it takes me awhile before I can get back to normal. Its not UT cause the mouse pointer will move to the bottom or top of the screen on its own sometimes when Im just on the desktop. Any Ideas?
Its a:

Glad thats resolved. I personally hate mousepads, however when i moved over to an optical mouse It kept getting caught in the grain of the wood of my desk so I also have a makeshift paper mousepad! _________________

That's an issue with about every optical mouse i've ever had, just happens sometimes. Looking straight up or down and turning back and fourth really fast? You obviously don't want to use an optical mouse on a reflective surface, but i've seen that happen using it on a solid colored mouse pad before too. Might just happen once in a while. I have a Razer Viper now, and i've thought about it before, but it just may have never happened with this mouse, have to see. _________________

i've read a little more about this, and i suspect it has to do with the data path. Most cheap mice have an 8 bit data path, i think my Viper has a 12bit and i've never seen it happen with this mouse, toe's is something nutzo like a 64bit data path... have you experienced this with your diamondback, toe? _________________

This is actually a common issue while using an optical mouse. It used to happen with old-school mice as well, we all remember it. Once the mouse gets clogged up and dirty it no longer wants to move the right way. With optical mouse it’s slightly different; though it doesn’t easily get dirty it does often have problems recognizing your movements. Depending on what sensor technology was used, you may be getting different results. Optical mouse can only recognize so much with its beam. What you are seeing on the screen is actual “skips”. The mouse simply takes your previous point, and when it misses portions of your movement it assumes your next possible position which usually results in it being somewhere on the side of the screen. That is why it worked better when you used something underneath it to create the solid colored surface. Works best on solid-colored surfaces that are not too bright or too dark (light consumption and reflection also matter in this situation). Now, my best suggestion would be is that you spend about $60-120 depending on your budget on a decent mouse with Laser technology, those things are almost as good as magic itself and work on nearly every surface (except water, unfortunately I’m still not able to work while relaxing in my bath). Hope some of this vague information was useful to you. |
